Another odd part comes out of hiding

Back three or four years ago, these clear lenses were listed in the Samba classifieds by two sellers at once.  They seemed to be for sale for a long time before both sellers presumably sold their wares and the ads disappeared.

Well, oddly enough, for the last couple of weeks I've been wondering if the clear flat lenses would come up for sale again in the near future.  I hesitated to buy a set the last time around and then, once they were gone, I kind of wished that I'd bought a set.  They're an odd part, for sure, and not one that everyone wants to have.  There is something about them that appeals to me, however, and during one of my many episodes of 'combing eBay while my wife watches television', I came across this set in Germany and bought them.  I may or may not wind up using them but I think they look pretty cool-not something you see very often (if at all).  I'll take these over mudflaps or an Abarth exhaust any day...although I did nearly buy a set of NOS rear mudflaps that I found a couple of days ago.

I'm attempting to stay the course and get the body finished and buy only the parts that I either can't 'live without' or that are absolutely necessary for the restoration...until today, it was going well.  I bought the rest of the bearings for the front end and planned/cleaned out the bin of parts for powder coating-I thinned the herd, so to speak, and removed quite a few parts from the pile.

There are now only a small handful of parts that I need for the restoration and I'm definitely on the hunt for them...I'll find them some day.

  1. I think these would be really cool if they had the Hella logo on them. Did you see the amber bottom/clear tops that popped up on ebay a couple weeks ago? Those were pretty weird too. -Michael

    1. The only thing that would make these better is that little logo...I still think these are super cool to have.

I didn't see the amber bottom/clear top version but I have seen the red bottom/clear top a few times in the past. I go through phases where I don't check eBay for a while because I'm just looking at all of the same stuff.
