Progress is not an illusion; it happens, but it is slow and invariably disappointing

I went to the shop yesterday after receiving a call from Tom.  The floors are welded to the pan and it's bolted up to the body.  It's ready for powder coat but the rear kick panel where the back seat bottom is mounted to the car is rusted out at the bottom half.  During my drive to the shop I was thinking "I have to take some pictures.  I have to take some pictures."  Yeah, I didn't take any pictures.  But now that everything is dead in the water until I find the part, it'll still be that way next weekend, I should be able to take pictures.

The rear kick panel is pretty well shot...the entire bottom is gone.  Turns out, the bondo king paid a visit to that part of the car as well.  I'm now on the hunt for a replacement part.  I put up an ad on The Samba and have two replies thus far.  I'm hoping that one of them is a solid candidate so I can keep things going.  Tom offered the fabricate the part but it would cost more than the floor pans...so I think I'm going to skip that offer.

To continue the weird season of cars and parts in the past few months-another nice car shows up in the classifieds this morning:

Looks pretty clean-either 64 or 65.   The dash pad and floor rubber are in very good condition.

There's no set price on the car-the seller is taking offers over $4500.  It's very tempting-the dash pad alone will wind up costing $1k and the floor mats are not found outside of cars like this one.

I think this car will fetch upwards of $6k if the right buyer comes along and it's condition isn't masked heavily by the few available photos.  It doesn't run but I suspect that's fairly easy to fix (bad gas, lines, or carbs need rebuild).  The distributor cap appears to have been replaced recently.  All in all, this would be an easy car to fix and drive.  A month ago, I would have pursued this car.  Now, I'm on a trail of 'focus' to get Ferris (aka Humpty Dumpty) back together.
