Never hurts to ask questions.

I finally found the right side check rod seal by asking someone I didn't think would have the part.  I guess I'm going to have to ask a lot more questions of a lot more people.

Also stumbled upon the last missing piece of the rear hatch script.

I bought a few other small parts, the rest of the intake boot clamps I could find and the last of the known hinge seals.

I took the plunge and bought over $160 of original Volkswagen grommets.  I think I'm only missing two now.  Those are going to be a real bitch to find.

No real progress on the actual car as of yet.  The pan is still where I left it after I picked it up.  I did discover that there are a couple areas where it wasn't painted properly so I'm going to have to address that before the rest of the parts are attached to it.  Not sure when I'll have time for that in the future.

The rebuild of this car was intended to take 2-3 years and is more and more looking like it'll take twice that long based on what's been happening of late.
