The pan is getting painted this week. I think I'll be picking it up next weekend if everything goes according to plan. The red body is being slowly taken apart and will likely be down to scrap metal in a few weeks. I'm going to keep a few pieces of that body (doors, hatch, front clip, rear apron) but I don't know if I'll be picking them up next week with the pan or at another time. I'll be taking photos when I go out for the visit - a welcome addition to the visual silence of late.
I was alerted to a NOS pair of early inner heater channels in Germany-Would be nice to have them around so I'm thinking about buying them in spite of the fact that the heater channels in Ferris are being repaired. At the current rate of progress, I think this car might have paint by the late Summer of 2014...meaning that I can begin the long, slow process of assembly. I'm still missing some key pieces but I should be able to find them by the time the car is painted. Just getting it on the finished pan will be a nice milestone to reach...
A lot of other things have popped up lately and I haven't been able to get the powder coat parts to the shop or the chrome pieces to the shop (they're also in two completely different directions). I'm hoping that things will quiet down after Christmas and I can get some of this stuff done. The front end should be simple to assemble and I have the parts for the rear end-just not the time to actually do anything. Time is becoming the bottleneck in the operation of getting this car back together. Fortunately, farming out the work has reduced the impact of that bottleneck quite a bit. I have a feeling that it's all going to come together real fast and the only thing that'll be left to do is put the car back together. It'll be a good problem to have if the timing works out.
I found some original W8AC spark plugs and bought three lots of them, along with a few other random parts-points for the ZV/JCU 4R3 distributors but that's about it. I sold two of my NOS ZV/JCU 4R3 distributor caps last week as it was time to thin down the pile of distributor parts that's been growing while I'm not looking.
A few details of my motor build are bugging me so I think I'm going to take it apart (tin, mostly) and fix the details before the 'tag in my shirt' turns into a 'thorn in my side'.
