I got some time today to take the rear sub-frame from the 65 apart today. I used it to measure the rear spring plates so that I can install the refinished spring plates on the powder coated rear sub-frame. I didn't get far enough to put the finished pieces together but I'm okay with the small amount of progress I made. I had to order some parts that I'm missing before I can assemble the 'clean' one I have ready. The old sub-frame was far more rusted out than I guessed it would be...although I should have expected it given that the car was owned/driven on the East coast in the Winter and not maintained properly. I took the useful parts off of it (spring plates, torsion bars) and put it out for scrap.
In addition, I went through the other parts and eliminated four engine cover lids, two rear seat backs and a few other small parts. Everything I got rid of was dented, damaged or not easily repaired and it was really just taking up space.
I'm waiting for the replacement hardware to arrive and then I can put the rear subframe together. From there, I'll install the transmission and temporarily set up the spring plates/axles...due to the design of the whole thing, I have to wait until the body and pan meet before aligning the rear axles properly.
I also managed to get the front beam from the 65 apart. The arms are nice, the bearings are good but the beam itself, is rusted out to a point where it can't be repaired...so I'm going to retrieve the bearings and bushings and scrap the beam...leaving me with two beams. I still need to dig out the other set of arms and see if I can get the powder coat off of the wrong places and still be able to use them.
It may be slow but it's forward motion.
