The only thing worse than not getting what you want is someone else getting it.

I have spent the better part of four hours going through the parts book in the last two days - in an effort to determine my course of action with the Variant.  I realized that I'm a hell of a lot closer to being able to put the car back together than I suspected.  There are a couple of obstacles in my path but I'm currently deciding if I should go around or climb over them.

Put in a few hours cleaning up some parts and found that I definitely have some extra parts that I can put up on the classifieds, so I'll be doing that in the next couple of days...it's a double-edged sword.

I was bidding on an old Workshop manual on eBay but the listing was in Australia and I didn't get up early enough to win it-the auction ended at 4am local time...meaning that I didn't want it that bad.  To be honest, I was so tired last night that I'd forgotten about it until I woke up.  I could have used eSnipe but it didn't cross my mind at the time...oh well, maybe next time.

A few more parts have trickled in via the good ol' postal carrier...
311 705 261 A, Rubber collar, upper
311 705 263 A, Rubber collar, lower

311 949 149 A, Grommet for parking lamp cable

341 919 157, Adapter, Gland Nut (for oil pressure switch)
341 919 153, Adapter for oil pressure swich

I've found that I make some interesting decisions when I'm at a crossroads...I definitely make better decisions when I don't think about the results for too long.
