Mufflers, part two

I recently 'won' an NOS Type 3 on eBay at an absurdly low price of $65.  It was listed locally so it arrived quickly (the next day).  I opened the box and looked it over.

Externally, they both look the same - the NOS Leistritz on the bottom, the eBay score on top.

The eBay muffler is 30% lighter in weight than the NOS Leistritz which means that something is different inside...

A little investigation to the guts revealed the weight savings. Looks like the lid to a Parmesan cheese shaker from a pizza shop - not what I expected to find.

 Look in the port - expecting to find equal length tubes and find...well, nothing.

 This thing has to be super loud when hooked up to a car - alas, I'll probably never find out because it'll either get sold or used for a pattern.
