I received the grommet order I placed two weeks ago. I spent a lot of time checking and rechecking the cross references that were noted to make sure I wasn't buying something that was incorrect.
Here's what I received:
(#18) 311 906 105, Grommet at Voltage Regulator
(#21) 211 959 221, Grommet at harness rear (I think this is Notchback only but I'll have to check when I get the body back).
(#22) 311 971 905, Grommet-main harness at engine bay (left side)
(#23) 141 971 907, Grommet at wire harness under dash (also fits on sunroof drain hoses for 65 and earlier cars)
(#25) 111 971 911 A, Grommet at front apron-horn and at rear (engine bay for right tail light)
(#26) 311 971 913, Grommet at body-front wire
harness
I'm still on the hunt for these:
(#19) 311 941 189, Grommet 20 x4. They're replaced by 411 941 189 by most shops but I think I've found some original examples in perfect condition. Just waiting on confirmation via email. I have two NOS pieces in my collection but I would like to find the complete set (7 pieces).
I have (#20) 311 949 149A, Grommet for side indicator so they're off the list.
I was able to compare/contrast the used/broken grommets I removed from the 65 and saved to make sure I had the right pieces. For every matching new/old grommet, I discarded the old grommet. I wound up with an empty bin of old grommets and a known few extra new grommets. This is, of course, keeping in mind that I'm missing the 5 pieces of #19 listed above.
The searching continues for 311 705 689, Thrust Ring for sub-frame mounting, rear (2) to complete the body/frame rubber expedition. I have some nice used examples but I'm hoping to complete the NOS/new pile with them if possible.

I've located what I believe to be the
correct hose for the fresh air box drains. I ordered a test piece to
check for fit. Once I can confirm it fits, I'll order up a bulk batch and
sell off applicable sections. I think I found door hinge screw plugs for the early Type 3s
and I'm waiting for them to show up. All told, I've spent over 20 hours
searching for parts and cross referencing them to the early Type 3...and so
far, I've been successful at sourcing the correct pieces. Good thing I've got a lot of time on my hands at work!
The transmission is on its way back to
Illinois. The transmission that was "rebuilt" locally actually
was not rebuilt-more like cleaned/painted and installed visible gaskets.
I was told by the California shop that at least two of the four forward
drive gears were not operational when it was torn down. It wound up
being torn down for parts to rebuild the original transmission out of the 65.
I'm looking forward to getting it back and beginning the assembly
process.
