Drove out to Henry, IL-about 100 miles from home-to check out the 64N Variant. The car is in very rough shape-all four fenders are rusted through, the front hood is rusted through and has several dents, the rockers and heater channels are both rusted through and have been re-worked at some point. The driver's seat is rusted to the seat channels, which are rusting away from the body of the car. The wheels and engine are in decent shape, however and it still has the original N model front bumper-although it's rusty as hell as well. I'm thinking that this car has been in a field or back yard for quite some time-the current owner has had it for about a month and just wants to get rid of it.
...and that's where it stands. His reserve on eBay was $1k, highest bid was $501.50. eBay takes $60 for every car sold, dropping his take home to $441.50 and then PayPal gets their share, dropping the total collected to $428 and change. I can respect his position but the car simply isn't worth more than about $300, especially given the remote location of the vehicle.
Later in the evening, he left me a voicemail saying that he'd go to $500. I emailed to ask for pictures of the second set of rocker channels and I'm currently waiting for a reply. We're obviously on different sides of this perception of value. I'm okay with whatever direction this goes.
