Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain.

I spent the better part of three hours cleaning out the garage-blowing out all of the bondo dust as a result of yesterday's exercise. I'm almost certain that I'm going to have Tom pick up the car and pan for blasting and primer/paint, along with installing the pans. I'd go pick up the completed pan and put it back together in the garage-the body would hang out at Tom's place until they were done with it. It'd free up a lot of space in the garage and give me some room to work and Kelly a place to park again.

I took 8 of the 9 wheels to get checked for 'true' and they all came back as straight. I contacted a guy who's been asking about a wheel for a few months to give him first dibs at one of the two I'm going to sell. My plan is to keep 6 wheels - get them blasted and painted or powder coated and sell the other two wheels. I'm thinking about L469 - Anthracite, for the body and a white roof in a single stage paint...although I've also considered L633 - VW Blue with a white roof...I'd really like a black car but I don't think the panels are going to be straight enough.

The new pile of stuff for Tom is already growing for Saturday delivery. I have a feeling I'll be going down there quite often for a while...

  1. I’m really curious as to why do you have so many wheels. But powder coating them will be a good move as it produces a thicker coating than traditional painting, which will provide better protection to your wheels. I think L469 Anthracite is nice, and it will look better on a glossy white paint after the single stage paint!

  2. I had two complete sets of wheels, one of which was a T1 wheel (with clips for the hub caps), so I gave that away to a local guy with a Beetle. I wound up selling off four more, so I'm now down to one set (5 wheels). Being in the middle of the country, it's hard to find early Type 3 parts, so I hang on to whatever I find that's also 'good'.

    Thanks for the comment!
