I've broken the project up into several phases so that I don't get too distracted with trying to do too many little things at once.
Phase 1: The Pan
I was hoping I'd be able to clean it up, replace the rear 1/2 sections and move forward. A thorough cleaning of the pan revealed that wasn't going to be feasible. There are too many holes and they're in all the wrong places. The updated plan is to remove the pan halves and replace them with Klassic Fab pan halves. I can rebuild the front beam and get it covered in Rust Bullet or MasterSeries. The bearings are good and the bushings are in good shape. I'm going to put a wide 5 front disc brake kit on the car to improve stopping power while retaining the look of the early wheels.
I have all of the cables, grommets and miscellaneous pieces to put it back together...although I am seeking a NOS set of lower front beam bushings to go with the top pair I found several months ago. The rear suspension triangle just needs to be taken apart, replace the bushings, sandblast and paint the triangle.
I have three transmissions for cores and two sets of axles. After reading and remembering what a pain in the ass it is to put the axles back into the transmission, I'm considering buying one that's already assembled. Might be worth the $200...
Rear brakes will be completely rebuilt, all lines replaced with new parts. New tires and freshly painted stock 5 lug wheels.
So far, I've got it all apart...it's a start, right?
