Introducing Ferris...

It was an interesting trip-picking up the car and bringing it back from Indiana.  Craig and I encountered some interesting weather that sent a few vehicles off the road with inexperience.

This is a photo taken during our trip:

Ferris, a 1965 Volkswagen Variant, was given his name by Lauren Brown in this ad:

Here's what I know:
Lauren Brown (college girl) bought the car from Tim Joyce, a VW dealership mechanic, in Lexington, KY in 1998.  She took the car back to Cinncinnati, OH and owned it until 2003.  Duane Miller (real estate dude) bought the car from Lauren and took it back to Indiana until he sold the car to me in 2010.

Duane admittedly didn't know much about the car and spent a lot of time digging around looking for solutions, finding and buying parts and trying to put Ferris back together for the local show circuit.  Several years passed and the car sat outside, unfinished.  The steam was gone.  Ferris was up for sale again.

I bought Ferris and brought him back to Illinois for a proper restoration.  It's cold as hell right now-I took a cursory look at the car before paying the balance and loading it up on the trailer.  I'm expecting to find a few additional surprises once I do a good 'once over', but with most of the car taken apart, a lot of those surprises are flushed out.

The nose is surprisingly straight and dent/accident free.  The hood is perfect.

Rear cargo floor is in great condition.  Hatch is straight.  Rust is minimal.

Dash is in decent condition-except for one switch hole is bored out.  I have a spare dash to fix that issue.

Spare tire area is clean.  Fuel tank is clean and ready for paint.

Side of the car is clean-doors are in exceptional condition.

Driver's side foot well.
